Epoxy Concrete Paint – Use It Properly
The usual target for epoxy paints are basements and garages, since they take heavy traffic and need a paint that can endure it well. Good results can be made on concrete slabs, kennels, interior floors, wooden car trailers, brick pavers, shop floor, laundry room floors and pole barns. This coating can endure dirt, grease, water, oil and many other chemicals that would usually destroy other paint types in no time. This is made possible through the use of tough resins that are mixed on application. Since they have such great price to value ratio, they are the best floor coating solution.
Epoxy coating can be found in three different types. You need to know that 100% solids do not have any solvents that can evaporate into thin air. Second, solvent based epoxies adhere and penetrate well but they are hazardous to health and need that you ventilate your garage or basement well during application to avoid breathing the fumes that emanate from them. And third, water based paints are thinner, cheaper, maintains anti-slip texture and do not produce hazardous fumes. You will have to apply a lot of ventilation to dry these up.
When you are applying your paint to the surface, you have to clean it with a hard bristled broom first to get rid of all the dirt, and then use some soapy water on that smae floor so the sweeping will be easier. Use water and degreaser to rinse off all those soluble contaminants that are on the floor surface. To be sure that your concrete floor is clean, the rinsing water should not stick on the floor. leave your garage floor to dry out until tomorrow. Apply your paint the following morning. You will need 2 or 3 layers to make a good coating. To get rid of those spills and paint drips, you need to have a clean rag made of cotton near you, as well as some epoxy thinner that will clean solvent based paints well.
Its toughness, its durability, its easy to clean finish, its salt and acid resistance is what endears me to this paint. Well, but these can only be attained from proper preparation, proper application and the time that you will give it to cure before you bring back your vehicle or allow traffic back.
