The county town of Matlock is found in the county of Derbyshire in England which is right on the edge of the Peak District. This is the ideal base to be staying in for either a two week holiday or a long weekend at any time of the year.

There’s plenty of places to stay in Matlock during the time you stay in this wonderful town.  Below we take a look at just some of the places worth considering staying in during your visit to Matlock.

Darwin Forest Country Park which nestles inbetween Bakewell and Matlock in the Derbyshire Dales. The Park covers a total of forty four acres and here you can spend time relaxing as you wander around the gardens. For the more energetic, there’s also a gym, indoor swimming pool, spa, sauna and steam rooms for your enjoyment. There is a wide range of beauty therapy treatments on site and there are also tennis courts and a games room or a miniature golf course. 

If you are intending to visit Matlock with children this facility has plenty to offer them as well. There are the adventure playgrounds plus there are all those acres of woodland to play in. During your stay you have the choice of staying in one of their luxury self catering lodges which are well insulated and so they are good for summer or winter holidays. 

Another place to think about is called the Old Sunday School because it used to be used as a Methodist Sunday school and has recently been restored.  Due to its nature, there aren’t many rooms but both the twin and double guest bedrooms have been well furnished and come with en-suite facilities. But unlike Darwin Forest Country Park this one is situated in the centre of Matlock town so is close to the pubs and restaurants.

Another country house you could look at is Robertswood Country House this is actually situated just outside the center of the town, 0.8 miles from it to be exact. Which means it’s only a leisurely fifteen minute walk from the town centre.  It can be found on the Farley hill side amidst some wonderful woodland it does offer the peace and tranquility that is perfect for helping you to relax.  If you’re lucky enough to get a south facing room then you can look out over the Peak District National Park and the Derwent valley.
