Preserve Money By Choosing A Superior Central Air Conditioning Unit

When you are selecting an air conditioning unit, your main aim is to find out the best application to cool off as well as dehumidify the air in your home. There are a couple different styles of air conditioning units that you can choose from, either a cabinet contained device or what is known as a split system. As with anything else please look around at all of the many different options that are availble for you before making the decision on any central air conditioning unit.

Permanent Central Air Conditioners

You can choose from permanent ones and even small models that are very easy to install and not as difficult as installing a large unit that would require professional installation. Of course, being without a central air conditioning unit will leave you feeling miserable during the hot season and so, even installing a small sized unit is preferable to having none at all.

These days a vast majority of homes are equipped with these central air conditioning units as they provide idealistic room temeratures by taking advantage of the benefits of dehumidifier technology and quality filtration. What’s more, these systems will also prove to be very useful for people that suffer from allergies or who are asthmatic.

You will find that these units can be installed into homes that don’t already have them. When you are choosing the most productive and cost effecient model for your home you need to be very critical about getting the square gfootage of your home correct. Making sure of the square footage si critical because if the unit is to large for your home, the dehumidification process may not work at its optimal performance and you will not get your desired results. It will therefore pay to get a professional contractor to calculate the right size for your central air conditioning unit and they can do this by employing a method known as “Manual J.”

When you are shopping around, it is also important to find out what the “SEER” rating is for the unit. This stands for Seasonal Energy Effeciency Ratio. You don’t want a unit with less than a number of 7 or 8, but having a number around 13 is better. Making sure that the unit comes with a “Scroll ™ technology” compressor is vital for energy conservation, and you also want to check out the energy star rating to find out how much energy the unit truly uses.

When you have one of these units installed, it is possible to save money on the costs of usage by being smart about how they are used. By giving your unit proper maintenance and making sure that the system has a high SEER rating you can be assured that it will be a toruble free and cost effective solution to those hot summer days.

If you already own an air conditioner, but it doesn’t have a dehumidifer as part of it, no worries as you can get a whole home dehumidifier as single units. Have A Look at our listings of dehumidifiers for sale at dehumidifiersforsale.net.

Sweltering Summer in UK Creates Chaos, Health Warnings and Record Sales of Desk Fans

ITN Video on UK Heatwave

The weather in Britain is so notoriously miserable most of the time that you have to feel the Brits deserve the heatwave they recently experienced. During the end of June and beginning of July temperatures rocketed to a whopping 35 Celsius (95F), the highest recorded for three years.  It was also the highest recorded temperature in June for decades – the average for June is 19-22 degrees Celcius (around 70 degrees Fahrenheit).

However when you subject such conditions on a people who hardly ever experience it, you can be sure of a little madness flying about.

Lobsters & Melanoma

The first thing British people do when even the smallest amount of sun is spotted is get their kit off.  You can visit any town in Britain during such weather and be sure of spotting hordes of people fighting for a good patch to sun themselves.  Several months down the line you can be sure of a few melanoma scares resulting from the overexuberant sun-worshipping.

The Grumbling Begins

True to form, the British mentality can’t deal with simply being happy and counting there blessings for more than a few days. Sure enough we soon started hearing people grumbling about it being too hot, and wishing for some cooler weather or even some rain. And, inevitably, there were petitions to demand the government do something about the awful hot weather and lack of air conditioners in public places!

Fan Stampede

While one half of the British population is stripping down to their underwear, the other half rushes down to the high street and sucks up the entire stock of desk fans like some sweaty, many-headed monster. According to Google, searches for the term “portable air conditioner” in the UK went from 9,900 in May to 49,500 in June!

Every Silver Lining Has a Cloud

Sadly the tropical heatwave didn’t last and since this scorching seven days the country has been hit by equally severe rain and thunder storms. The yo-yoing between extreme weather patterns is certainly worrying for environmental campaigners as an example of climate change in effect. The funniest part of it is that the same people who were complaining about the heat the previous week, are now complaining about the heavy rainfall. I guess there’s no winning.

Woman’s Hair Gets Caught in Desk Fan

A young British woman working in an office in London was seriously injured recently when her hair was trapped by the blades of a desk fan, leading to servere blood loss and lacerations to the scalp. Emily Hutnyk, 24, an administrative assistant at a major telecommunications firm in the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea, was trying to cope with the recent heatwave in the UK . Thermometers in the captial city rose to as high as 35 Centigrade (95 F) on July 1st, which meant if you worked in an office in London the conditions could become rather unbearable. Just like many other office workers, Miss Hutnyk put a small fan on her desktop in order to stay cool while trying to work. Since desk fans are notoriously inneficient at cooling in very high temperatures, she repeatedly moved the appliance closer to her face. However her long hair, swept around by the wind caused by the fan, swept in between the grilles and got caught in its whirling blades. It only took seconds for a large amount of hair and skin to be forcefully torn out of the girl’s head by the rotating blades of the fan. “I hardly remember it to be honest”, admitted Miss Hutnyk when interviewed later, “I think I passed out within seconds – it was my poor colleagues who had to watch it happen. I think my co-workers were acutally the traumatised ones – apparently my blood went everywhere.” She was rushed to the nearest hospital by ambulance, where she was treated for blood loss, scalp wounds and shock. Once her head wounds have fully recovered Miss Hutnyk may consider hair implant surgery, as some of the hair that was pulled out may never grow back.

“This was a terrible accident,” said a company spokesman later. “It is something we want to avoid happening again and we’ll be reviewing the provision of cooling appliances in the office. We will be fitting each office with a ceiling fan and banning the use of desk fans to prevent these kinds of incidents in the future.” Office and general workers trade union GMB scoffed at this response from the company, calling it “far short of the mark”. “The root cause of such disasters is that we don’t have equipment or laws in place in workplaces to help us cope with hot weather – ceiling fans aren’t enough. We are demanding that every office in the UK be fitted with at least a portable air conditioner both to help people concentrate on their work and ensure this kind of tragedy never happens again.” Miss Hutnyk, at the unions advice, is currently considering whether to pursue legal action against the company, which could be a landmark case in health and safety and employment law.

UK Heatwave Causes Sunburn, Panic and Rush on Fans and Air Conditioners

Heatwave warning rises as Britain bakes (Youtube)

In the UK the year round weather is so blighted by rain and clouds – but the population got a well deserved break recently with some thermometer busting conditions. The last week of June this year saw UK temperatures soar to a reported 35 degrees Celsius (or 95 in Fahrenheit), the highest recorded for three years.  It was also the hottest temperature in June for decades – the average for June is 19-22 degrees Celcius (around 70 degrees Fahrenheit).

But when a population starved of warmth and sunshine are given it all in one go, crazy things start to happen.

Sunburn City

First thing you see when the sun comes out in the UK is people stripping down to bikinis to make the most of the sun.

As sure as the sun sets, people soon started to complain about it being too hot, getting nostalgic about how cool it was last week. And, inevitably, there were petitions to demand the government do something about the awful hot weather and lack of air conditioners in public places!

Staying Cool

With half of the UK population is stripping down to their underwear, the rest rushes down to the high street and sucks up the entire stock of desk fans like some sweaty, many-headed monster. According to Google, searches for the term “portable air conditioner” in the UK went from 9,900 in May to 49,500 in June!

Nothing Lasts Forever

Unfortunately these Mediterranean conditions failed to stick around, and after a week of this there were equally severe thunderstorms and rain, leading to severe flooding in some parts.  Many environmental campaigners are pointing to these extremities as yet more evidence of the effects of climate change. Now, of course, the UK public is now starting to complain about the rain and harking back to the heatwave. You just can’t win.

Your health could be suffering because of dry air

It’s no secret that living and working in damp conditions can cause illness, but the same is also true for the opposite. Many health problems are caused by air that is too dry, and could be easily avoided by regulating the air in the home and workplace. The use of air conditioners not only helps to control the temperature and purity of the air but also ensures that humidity is kept at the right levels to avoid these health issues. One obvious consequence of a dry environment is dehydration, but there are all sorts of other complaints that can be made worse by living and working in these conditions.

Asthma – Modern buildings with double glazing are pretty much airtight and so get particularly hot and dry through the winter when the central heating is in use. The effects of central heating drying out the air are easily noticeable to everyone, but for those who suffer from respiratory illnesses it can cause their condition to get a lot worse. Installing a portable air conditioner with a humidifier in the home or office makes all the difference as it injects the necessary moisture back into the air.

Dry skin and hair – If the air is too dry it will attempt to correct this by taking moisture from the skin of people and animals, plants, wooden furniture etc. This can leave skin feeling rough and painful, and hair dry and brittle.

Hay fever and allergies – Hay fever actually has nothing to do with hay, and affects one in 10 people across central Europe. Airborne pollen is the real cause, you can’t see it but it’s everywhere during the summer months when it’s hot and dry. The use of a ceiling fan will make the room feel fresher and less dusty, but if the air is too dry it will only blow pollen around even more. Keeping humidity at a steady, healthy level weighs down dust and other airborne particles. As any hay fever sufferers will no doubt have noticed, the best time to go out during summer months is after rain when the air is moist.

Eyes – One of the first things to be affected by dry air is the eyes. The thin film of moisture on the surface of the eye can evaporate very quickly, and leave the eye red and irritated. Contact lens wearers are most familiar with this as the lenses become an irritation if they are allowed to dry out, and can sometimes pick up small particles of dust.

Tiredness – It’s not just the feeling of dry eyes that causes us to feel tired in dry conditions, it also affects the way we breathe. The lack of enough moisture in the air makes it harder for the lungs to extract oxygen. Tiredness, headaches and general fatigue are signs of reduced oxygen levels, and can cause stress.

Swine Flu Epidemic Preventable with Household Air Purifier

You can’t sneeze these days without some clever so-and-so in the vicinity making a joke about having swine flu, with a smirk on his/her face. No doubt thats something to be relieved about – if we’re making jokes it means things aren’t serious. So far the virus has been relatively well contained so far, with worldwide cases under a thousand to date and deaths a rarity. But to become lax and off guard about this would be rather silly. Clearly the risk of the spread escalating is still a serious one. In the UK the health service recently distributed a leaflet to every household in the country about how to prevent the spread of swine flu germs.  This leaflet can basically be boiled down to one sentence: “always sneeze into a tissue, then throw it away, wash your hands and bathe yourself in a vat of boiling elephant milk”. (ok ok the last part was a lie). I guess my point is that if governments are willing to take their public education that far it means they too see it as a real threat, worth potentially upsetting us.

Well, tissues aside, a UK company that specialises in air conditioners has come up with a novel and potentially important way of preventing swine flu. According to JS Humidifiers’ blog, an air purifier could be effective in trapping and removing particles of swine flu virus from the air before it has a chance to spread.Usually, people use air purifiers to prevent allergic reactions and cleanse the air of pollutants. But with most purifiers, fitted with HEPA air filters, they can block particles as tiny as 0.3 micrometers. The swine flu virus particles, just like ‘normal’ influenza particles, are aroun 80 to 120 nanometers in diameter, and therefore within the range of what a purifier would pick up.The purifiers that have an ultra violet lamp inside them are virtually guaranteed to stop the flu, as the UV light kills all airborne viruses.

This is really a remarkable discovery. Imagine if, rather than counting on people to make sure they don’t spread their germs to others, you could take the germs out of the air altogether with some strategically placed air purifiers in schools and workplaces! Maybe this is something that governments in the UK and around the world could think about in their contingency planning. And maybe this summer when you are considering buying a portable air conditioner for the home or workplace, you might think about cleansing the air as well as cooling it.

How the Recession Makes us Think Again About What is a Must Have Item

The mark of a serious recession is when people start changing their once firmly held opinions of what they couldn’t live without. Research conduced by Pew Research Center of a large number of US residents asked what household appliances and everyday items were being considered a lower priority as a result of the credit crunch. They posed the question “which of these are a luxury you could live without and which are a necessity?” regarding a number of household appliances and gadgets. The list ranged from cars to air conditioners to microwaves to cell phones. The results, perhaps shocking to some, show how more and more of us are becoming increasingly frugal with our purchasing decisions on ‘big ticket’ household appliances and electronics.  Owning a microwave became a luxury for 21 percent of people compared with 2006. Having a home or portable air conditioner stopped becoming a luxury for 16 percent of people asked compared to a few years ago. Maybe the most surprising result was the fact that 12% less people considered a TV to be a necessity in the home. The items that didn’t take a hit in the survey were new-age gadgets such as ipods, mobile phones and broadband – these have become the things we can’t do without.

To be honest many of the results don’t surprise me all that much. You only have to ask around to friends and family to see that frugality is becoming key as we live in fear of rising prices, reduncancies and difficulties in obtaining credit. I suppose from now on it will be about spending the minumum necessary to get by. Having a ceiling fan instead of air conditioning during the hot summer we have coming ahead. Staying with the same refridgirator or mattress that you’d like to replace but dont desperately need to. Not driving your car as much to cut back on fuel costs and mechanic bills. I believe we can make do with these types of compromise to be honest. What I and many others are really worried about though is that this is only the tip of the iceberg, and the situation could get too bad to be resolved by smarter household budgeting.  Maybe at that point people will start to think about all the billions we pay in taxes that gets spent on war, bank buyouts and corporate kickbacks, and start to demand some real change in our society.

What Are Portable Air Conditioners?

Air conditioners which move from one room to another on casters are known as portable air conditioners. Movable air conditioners can be as large as window units, but their wheels make it very easy to move them. You can use portable air conditioners in your home, business, office, or warehouses. Obviously, portable air conditioning units have a lot of uses.

Many industrial warehouses have trouble getting cool enough from one air conditioning unit due to their size. When certain areas need to be cooled more than others warehouses find renting portable air conditioning units very helpful. No matter if it is a person or a machine, portable air conditioners can follow either to make any space more comfortable. Several machines in a factory are in need of this type of cooling. Places where computers are installed can require cooling in order to ensure better performance.

Portable air conditioners are built to take a lot use, therefore they handle much more than usual. If you want cooling capacity of 3.5 to 60 tons then you can rent a portable air conditioner. You can get air conditioners with Freon or evaporation technology. Evaporation units are almost always more expensive than the Freon AC units.

Many functions like weddings, live performances and sporting events rent, for their convenience, portable spot air conditioners. Maintaining an average coolness throughout an area one can choose to place a rented portable air conditioner in optimum areas. When any task is finished the portable air conditioner can then just be wheeled away.

You can sometimes rent portable air condition units for vehicles on the move-like if you have perishable cargo, such as food. Water based transportation vehicles like ships and boats can often find great usage for portable air conditioners.

Portable air conditioners can be rented on a long term and short term basis. Many factories require a rental for months and sometimes even years. Many social events require only one day for a rental. The amount of time need for the rental may cause a variance in price from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand.
