Camping is a Great Family Activity
Most of my best memories of my family’s camping trips were of time spent sitting around the nightly campfire. In fact, as soon as we’d pull into the campground, dad would begin to set up the family camping tents and I’d start to find firewood. I’d always collect so much wood that we could never burn it all but for me, the fun was in the “hunt”. Then it would be my job to light the fire. I can remember boasting to my family that I could light a fire with only one match and no newspaper or fuel. Today it’s probably easier to buy your wood but sitting around the campfire is still a lot of fun.
Sitting around the campfire is one of those things that bring people together. Start a fire and most likely the people in the RV next to you will come by with a bag of marshmallows to roast. My sister used to roast hers slowly and get them brown on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside and she always cooked them on one of our bbq tools. I always put mine on the end of a stick and set them on fire until they were burnt to a crisp. We met a family on a camping trip in Canada in the late sixties and mom and dad are still close friends with them today.
A campfire will be a great idea for your family’s camping trip too. Once the marshmallows get roasting and mom brings out the hot chocolate, somebody may start telling stories. I used to like the ones that started out sounding like they were going to be scary but in the end, were funny. You will also sing campfire songs and tell jokes that only the kids find funny. What will make your kids happiest is that the whole family will be together and the they will have mom and dad all to themselves.
The more I think about those great vacations, the more I recommend that you pack your camping gear; and picnic accessories and take your family on a camping trip. You’ll have a great vacation and create memories that will last forever. I know mine have.
Want to Relieve Stress? – Try a Picnic
Are you looking for something relaxing to do now that this winter is finally over? If your answer is yes, you really should consider going on a picnic. I feel my blood pressure go down as soon as I get out my picnic basket and barbecue tools and head for a day in the sun. The fresh air and sunshine just seem to drain the stress right out of me and, let’s face it, a barbecue tastes better than food cooked on a stove any time!
I suggest you pick a place with a stream for your picnic. Perhaps you can even do a liitle fishing. Whether you catch anything or not, you’ll discover that when you’re fishing, all your troubles disappear and you feel totally at ease. Just don’t count on the fish you catch for your picnic dinner because some days they just aren’t biting. If fishing isn’t your thing, you can take a leisurely stroll along the shore or just kick back and watch the water. I’d suggest bringing some bread because there usually seem to be ducks around and feeding them can be tons of fun.
Another activity you can do if you really want to enjoy your picnic is read a great book. I like to leave the business reading at home and bring one of the novels that I never seem to have time for. Just kick back on your lounge chair and enjoy a good story. Please don’t forget to either sit in the shade or protect yourself with some high quality sunscreen so you don’t get sunburned.
These days, life is very stressful for many of us. Luckily, there are many herbal remedies (legal ones) that can help us feel a little more relaxed. These remedies work even better when combined with relaxing activities. When it comes to relaxing activities, I think that there are none better than packing your wicker picnic basket and heading to a park near you. Give it a try, I think you’ll agree.
