Build muscles with weight training at least three times a week. More muscle mass means a faster metabolism. A faster metabolism will use up more calories even when you’re not moving. You’ll also feel better and look better just because of the toned muscle.

Never skip breakfast, lunch or dinner. Doing so drops your body into starvation mode where it burns calories more slowly. A slow metabolism is not a friend of fat burning. Remember too that eating too little will also drop the body into starvation mode. Most people need to consume at least 1200 calories each day.

Fat burning workouts combined with healthy eating can have amazing results. It doesn’t have to be hard. Too hard is bad because when a work out is too hard people stop doing it. Too many people get gung-ho on working out after Christmas, or just before the summer beach season, but don’t even make it for a month before the difficult workouts ground them into quitting. In addition, people found the zone diet the easiest to maintain of all the low carb diets.

The zone diet creates a perfect balance of insulin and glucagen which causes the body to release chemicals similar in effect to those found in aspirin.  Sears also pointed to heart health as a side benefit of anti-inflammatory chemicals. The body also becomes more efficient as a result of the zone diet, meaning it stops storing fat.  Thus, with no fat stored, and with stored fat used as energy, the body loses weight. Various supplements were later added to the diet to deliver certain beneficial fatty acids.

The zone diet calls for the following – a hand full sized piece of meat, as many vegetables as you can eat, and just enough carbs to maintain mental clarity.  

The Zone diet boasts an amazing weight loss story to its credit – a man who once weighed 1200 pounds. After two years on the zone diet he lost nearly 1/3 of that weight, all that after trying everything he could think of including liposuction that had nearly been fatal. Now he continues to follow the zone diet as he consumes 2000 calories daily, broken up between six meals.

Fad Diets

Fad diets are diets that involve rapid weight loss, but are only to be followed for a short period of time.  Another popular culture meaning for the term is a diet that becomes wildly popular for a period of a few months to a few years, and then fades into obscurity. Fad diets are a subcategory of food fads. Any time one particular food suddenly becomes a superstar, that’s a food fad. Common aspects of these fads include:

-The food, or some ingredient within it, is thought to have amazing powers.

-Many other foods are completely eliminated from the diet, because they are thought to have negative properties.

One of these fad diets that has these elements is the Atkins diet. In Atkins carbohydrates must be avoided because of their negative characteristics. At the same time, carbohydrates are the miraculous element — actually the lack of carbohydrates because it creates a metabolic state in which the body burns fat at an amazing pace. This diet even included short phases, followed by sustained phases. But Dr. Atkins did intend that people could eat this way for the rest of their lives.

As with many fad diets Atkins rose quickly and fell just as quickly. Why Diets Fail Every Time

A friend of Jared’s, who worked for the University newspaper, ran into him.  This buddy barely recognized Jared, so he decided to write an article about his amazing weight loss. Men’s Health magazine picked up the story as part of an article about weird diets that work.  When a Chicago Subway owner read the story he contacted his advertising agency about making it into an ad.  They took the ad idea to Subway’s national ad agency who disliked the idea, so they created a local campaign for Chicago featuring the Subway diet.

Needless to say the Subway diet became a huge hit.  Soon Jared and the Subway diet were in all the national media, including a guest stint on Oprah.  Now it was the national agency’s turn to ask about running the ads around the country.
