Are children still interested in golf?

The past few years has shown less and less younger people playing sports like golf. Why could this possibly be happening? It certainly isn’t down to kids not wanting to use the electric golf trolleys.
One of the major reasons and the reason that detered me from the sport is that one of the parents play the game and it is seen as a older generations game. It can also be said that if a youngster is going to play golf they are bound to be picked on if they are seen wearing some of the outfits golfers have to wear on some of the courses. The fact is that when I was at school the people who played golf were only friends with the other golf players which was either out of choice or bullying which is wrong.

Why is it that golf is seen as a old mans sport and not seen like football, tennis, rugby and all the other high profile sports. Although golf is a high profile sport, most children would sadly prefer to play football or rugby than give the sport a chance. To a certain extent this is untrue as I know an 8yr old boy who loves the game and plays it every Saturday. The only problem is ge wishes to play football and go to gardening club rather than play golf. I really do not see how gardening can possibly be better than playing golf? Is the game really seen to be that boring to the younger people? Although not liking the sport myself I also do not like football or any other of the major sports so i'm certainly not biased against the sport.

In all honesty golf would certainly benefit the kids of today more so than a lot of other sports as it has standards that must be kept to. The great thing about golf is that it would actually help any child who liked the sport as unlike other sports the majority of people who play it don't swear or behave like a complete idiot. Another plus side is it inspires young people to play the game as well as they can and fairly as the golfers themselves really only get money for playign hte tournaments rather than on a stupidly high wage per week.
So charge up those golf batteries kids and get playing!

New way to play golf on the Wii

As long as the game is nt Tiger Woods 09 as that game is quite possibly the worst game of the entire series. A great game on Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 it still is very limited on who is going to buy it really as the majority of gamers prefer the shooters. This years edition of the game will most certainly tempt me simply because of the new Nintendo technology. Why is this? It’s certainly not because I’m saving money on electric golf trolleys that’s for sure. The great Nintendo motion sensing technolgy wasn't as great as it was expected to be and although great for kids it does get in the way of devlopers making half decent games for it. I will not talk about how much Nintendo have disappointed their fans over the last couple of years but I will say with the release of the new MotionPlus attachment for the Wii remote the game actually starts responding to how it should have when the Wii was first released.

This of course makes stormy weather a reason for golfers to smile with glee as they can simply walk downstairs and play their dream course in a nice summers day. You get to feel al the stress of a real golfer by deciding on what club to choose, what the wind direction is and how hard you actually have to hit the ball.

The new game which is due out later this year will sell more than than last years edition that much is certain. Being rubbish at golf myself should mean that I would be equally as bad at Tiger Woods but it makes it a lot easier than the real thing and even if you do find yourself failing then you still have the safety knowing that only you and your family will see you fail rather than the whole golf course. You can scream at the course as much as you want on the game as there is no one there to tell you to be quiet so there! Although watching someone fail to hit the ball very far on the Wii will be amusing it certainly will not be anywhere close to when I was an assistant greenkeeper at my local golf course and took great pleasure in watching some of the golfers fail miserably.
The best thing of all is that you no longer have to charge golf batteries up, just walk into the room, pick up the remote and have a game!

Could gaming be the new sport?

Sporting games can appeal to anyone at all which is a huge problem for the real sports as they really only apply to the people who actually play the game itself. Just how close are computer games to the real thing? The question is, do you burn the same amount when you are playing the sports on a games console? The best way to put it is . . . perhaps.  Obviously if you are buying say a golf game for the 360 or PS3 it is not going to do anything apart from save you money on one of those electric golf trolleys.

On the other hand if you were to purchase one on the Wii the only thing you are missing out on is the walking aspect of the sport. A lot of the pro's in golf do not bother to even walk the course as it is so how much are you really missing out on. Game devlopers are always looking to improve the games they are making and this has become more of a competition than anything and the Wii is taking advantage of this by using its powerful motion sensing technlogy. When playing sports games that use your hands like golf and tennis it actually feels like you are playing the real thing which I have to admit is fantastic. With the new attachment for the Wii due out later this year motion sensing technology will advance further. This is a big problem for sport as the new technology is going to enable games to be made to be even more realistic than some of them are now. So is this really having an affect on anything? It is a great idea for all the people who simply cant afford to go out and pay loads of fees. Everytime you wish to play golf all you have to do is walk to the console and switch it on.

Personally I love games, but I think that they should stick to making the games that people that play them like and leave the sporting ones out of it. Every sport requires a huge talent to be able to play in a half decent way and it would certainly be a shame to see less and less people to start playing over time because of computer games.

So next time your stuck between going out in the rain for a round of golf or plugging in the Wii for a bit of a game, stop and think, the real thing is always better so charge up those golf batteries and get playing!
