A lot of us decide to work at home to reduce the many difficulties related to the typical nine to five job – issues like an irrational manager, too much to do and/or silly cut off dates.

But, we may quickly realize that working at home brings its own issues.  So, how ought we deal with these brand-new difficulties?

1.  Create A Efficient Office At Home

Be sure you’ve got a dedicated workspace, along with all of the necessary equipment like phone, PC, printer, fax, etc . 2.  Remove Needless Activities

Go thru your “To-Do” List and eliminate anything that really doesn’t fit on the list, or anything that doesn’t genuinely need to be completed.  Be ruthless in your choices – delete as much busywork work as possible.  Reducing your list will not only save you the time you would spend trying to complete those tasks – it’ll also minimize the stress and physical problems related to fretting about those nonessential tasks.

3.  Acquire Necessary Tools

The right tools make any job much less complicated.  Spend the cash to get the basic tools and equipment you need to do your job.  And, if your financial position allows, spend some extra cash to get the tools that ( while not completely mandatory ) will simplify your operation and make your life generally far less stressful.

Buy a stable, automated marketing management system and let computers handle lead management and order accomplishment chores for your business.

4. Engage a Personal Assistant ( s )

Define tasks that are routine, recurring and not among your core processes.  Consider outsourcing them to a personal admin (which is far more cost-benefitical than you may think).  Possibilities for outsourcing include bum marketing, site design, SEO, backlinking, lead follow-ups, etc.

5.  Create a Support Community

Working from home can become a particularly lonesome activity.  Create a strong support group – this may be a bunch of colleagues with whom you connect thru the web (e.g, forums, discuss rooms ) or a local group in your community or church.  The main thing is to maintain regular contact with folk who are vital to you – and who can share what you’re going thru as an entrepreneur.

6.  Manage Your Ambition

Don’t expect miracles or overnight success.  Establish a relationship with a mentor or friend who can help you set pragmatic objectives and expectations – and help you stay focused when things don’t go quite the way you would like them to go. Your grand and ambitious objectives may appear inspiring, but taken as a whole, they can be extraordinarily overpowering and frightful ( e.g., “I want to be a millionaire” or “I want to retire in five years”).  The smartest thing to do with such grand goals is to “chunk them,” i.e, break them into far smaller, more manageable pieces and then make a plan to gain each of those sub-goals.

8.  Eat Healthy

Eat a healthy, balanced diet loaded in fruit and vegetables.  Cut down on caffeine ( coffee, black and green tea, cola drinks, and chocolate ).

9.  Workout

Exercise mitigates stress, pushes oxygen to the brain, and provides a respite from stressed eventualities.

10.  Rest & Recreate

Try to plan time as a normal part of your day to breathe and do something you enjoy, even if it is just for a short time.

Have you recently been laid off?

Have you found that the recession has really hurt your ability to find a new job to replace your old one?

Current Situation

If so, you’re in good company.  December 2007 marks the official beginning of this recession, and since then, more than 5.7 million jobs have ended.  According to the Associated Press (AP), after the May 8th release of the April, 2009 unemployment numbers:

• 13.7 million people were out of work in April, 2009, and that was the largest number since 1948
• 539,000 jobs were lost in April alone
• 8.9% unemployment (the highest since September, 1983), but if those who’ve been laid off and just given up or taken part-time work, are included, that number jumps to 15.8% – the highest since 1994

If you’ve been unemployed for more than a month, you may be feeling angry, or maybe even a little panicky as you observe the pages of the calendar turn, with still no work on the horizon.  In addition to your short term worries, you’re probably also concerned about things like being able to send your kids to college, or how to fund your retirement.

There are basically three choices in this situation:

1. Panic
2. Keep doing what you’ve always been doing (the same things that haven’t yet found you a new job), or
3. Try something different

Option 1:  Freak Out

The first option, panic, is entirely counter-productive, and should be avoided at all costs.  A little fear is an excellent motivator – it can help us get out of a dangerous situation by energizing us to either run or fight. Unlike fear, panic is not a good thing. It merely overloads our nervous system and generally reduces our ability to respond quickly and appropriately.

Option 2:  Continue Doing What You’ve Been Doing

If doing what you have been doing had been successful for you, you wouldn’t be reading this article right now.  Unless you’re willing to try something new, you’ll end up exactly where you are.

Good people have been unemployed for six months or more in this economy.  After diligently answering help wanted ads and sending out countless resumes, what results have they realized?  Nothing. nada.

Even when people find jobs to appy for, they’re not getting callbacks in this economy, let alone hired.

Option 3:  Try Something Different

The third option – do something different – seems to be the only feasible solution.  With so many options on the table, it is difficult to know where to start?

• Don’t worry about being downsized again.
• Don’t let your job keep you from spending quality time with your family and friends.

This is a very compelling book and presents a plan that is easy to understand and apply.

He shows us that we can realize our lifelong dreams much easier and cheaper than we had previously thought; however, the necessary ingredients are courage and self-confidence to take a leap of faith.  I plan to implement many of his ideas into my own life.

Baby Boomers have come into their 50′s and 60′s in large numbers and have promised themselves that they would never grow old. As an age group we’re more a part of the larger world than any previous generation at the same age.
