No matter the tone of the event you’re planning – reserved and dignified or wild and crazy – it is probable that not all the invitees will know each other well, if at all.  One of the best ways to break the ice and have fun is by playing trivia games based on the bride and/or groom, since the couple is probably the one thing all your guests will have in common and will be interested in.In the next few paragraphs, you’ll find suggestions on structuring the games, the questions you can ask, and the prizes you can award.

Bridal/Couple Trivia

Write a quiz – either multiple choice or short answer – to hand out to guests as they walk in the door.  These questions can either be all about the bride (Where was Anne born?What is Anne’s favorite animal for a pet?Who was Anne’s first boyfriend?), or about the couple (Where did James take Anne on their first date?What did James bring as a gift on their first date? ).One way to find the winner is by simply collecting the quizzes after everyone has finished, or (which is likely to be more fun), give everyone someone else’s quiz to “grade” and see who won.
In the Hot Seat

Another option is to meet with the groom previous to the event and ask him questions the bride should know the answer to.Later in the party, ask the bride to sit in the center of the room; you ask her the same questions you asked her fiancee and compare answers.This is a fun opportunity for the bride to hear things she may not know, and to let her entertain her guests with stories that further explain her (and his!) answers to the questions.Who did James go backpacking in Europe with?  What is, for James, your best physical feature?

What Should the Questions Be About

Remember to consider your guests and the type of event.A bachelorette party is simply not the same as a bridal shower.The relationship of the guests to the bride should be the deciding factor when you consider more risqué questions.As a rule of thumb, if the question is something you wouldn’t want your own mother-in-law hearing the answer to, avoid putting your friend in that position.Try to find questions that are neither boring nor too scandalous – that way, everyone will have a good time. Come up with some prize ideas

When you select prizes, make sure to think about the type of event you are having, and the tastes of your guests.  The following options can all be purchased for less than ten dollars each, and often much cheaper.A sedate bridal shower may have as prizes a silky scarf or perfumed bath salts, which are romantic without being vulgar.Now then, if the event is a bit racier in tone, you can give more scandalous prizes, such as edible underwear or fishnet stockings.
